Week 6 YouTube

after looking at the suggested searches for YouTube videos I realised that it can be used for a variety of things. It would be great for promotional videos of libraries or even how to use datebases etc. Once again I had to force myself to stop looking up videos and continue the Learning 2.0 exercies. Again this week Learning 2.0 has fueled my Star Wars addicition with Lego Star Wars videos. I espically liked the Eddie Izzard Death Star Canteen, what could be better my favourite movie and my favourite comedian brought together by lego.

Week 5: Wikis

I am finding this topic very interesting with the variety of ways that wikis can be used. Having already used Wikipedia for personal use I was familiar with that use of a wiki but I didn't realise how a library could put them to use. I thought that the "what to do with Wikipedia" Information Today article raised some very good points, as a university student I know that one of the first things we were told was to not use Wikipedia as a source and so the arguments raised in the article were very close to home. As a Star Wars fan I especially liked Wookieepedia, although I had to move on before I got too absorbed and forgot I was at work. I also liked the Library Success wiki and have made it a favourite so I can revisit it as I think it has beneficial information for libraries.
I think that book reviews would be a great way to incorporate wikis in a library. It would provide an excellent way to interact with users.

Week 4 - RSS

I must admit that setting up my RSS with Bloglines was a bit of a struggle. While the RSS itself was easy to set up I had difficulty thinking of websites to use. Thankfully the suggestions from the Learning 2.0 activities were a good start. I choice the Powerhouse museum picture of the day blog, Librarybytes, ABS for Librarians, a google news feed and fellow colleague's blog (I found this an easier way to follow her updates as opposed to following in blogger). I can see how RSS feeds would be useful in staying up to date with news etc, however it is possible to be inundated with news articles if the RSS is not accessed regularly. I can see that RSS would be useful fro libraries to access updates easily without needing to go to multiple websites to check for updates. Likewise the library could create a RSS feed for its website so that library clients could quickly access any new information regarding the library.

Glen Innes Severn Public & TAFE Library

When I first looked at flickr, I discovered that there were no photos of the library where however when I looked again I discovered that a fellow staff member had added a photo as part of the Learning 2.0 program. This Is the front of the Glen Innes Severn Public and TAFE Library.

Week 2

I am finding the Learning 2.0 very thought provoking. I thought that the blog WW1: Experiences of an English Soldier was interesting and not really something I would have thought of. Already I am seeing how blogs etc could be applied to the library I work in. I can see that blogs can have a range of uses in the library environment, from publicity to reviews and much more. I'm curious as to what will come next in Learning 2.0 and hope it will be as interesting as it has been so far.
